project : precedent study (essay)
In a group of 5, we were required to conduct an architectural analysis on a building that was designed by the Modern Masters. We've chosen Barcelona Pavilion, which was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. We were first required to write an essay on the specific building.

We then had to provide an analysis presentation board of the building, all strictly hand-drawn and hand-written.
The in-depth analysis allowed me to understand Mies' underlying philosophy of "Less is More" and the concept of free plan which was made possible with the use of load-bearing structural columns. By comparing it to current building designs, it is undeniable that Mies' concepts are still being continuously used till today. Through this project, my understanding on the principle, ideas and contributing factors of the architecture of Modern Masters increased and I was able to analyse and identify specific architectural features in terms of space planning, details, form and the aesthetics of the architecture of Modern Masters.
