project 1 : case study - analysing passive design strategies
In this project, we were required to choose a building in Klang Valley that best features two passive design strategy for a tropical climate. In a group of 7, we did a case study on the Pinnacle Sunway. The passive design features which we studied on were shading and its low E double glazing windows. After analyzing, we realised that the strategies used were suitable in maintaining thermal comfort as a high rise building requires more shading and heat reflectance on the walls instead of the roof
Through this project, I had identified multiple passive design features in a green building and also the principles of heat transfer in relation to building and people. I learnt what is thermal comfort and the factors and effects that relates to it. Besides that, I was able to explain the effect of insulation and air movement in thermal performance of buildings.
